Trojan Stallion Fitting Instructions (Window Shootbolt Espagnolette)

Handles & Hinges UPVC Maintenance Ltd is a UK specialist in replacement parts for UPVC windows and doors. The Trojan Stallion (Stallion II) is a quick-fit, telescopic shootbolt espagnolette for Eurogroove windows — designed to clip in, self-set to length, and secure with minimal screws.

Safety first: Work with the sash supported. Wear eye protection. Do not over-tighten into reinforcement.

What you’ll need

Fitting steps

  1. Prepare the sash
Open the window and remove the old espagnolette and shootbolts. Clear the Eurogroove and check for obstructions.
  2. Clip the Stallion into the Eurogroove
Offer the gearbox to the handle position and locate the bar in the Eurogroove. Starting at the gearbox, clip the strip in along its length so it sits fully home.
  3. Self-set to length
Extend/retract the telescopic ends so the shootbolts reach the keeps with the sash closed line. The Stallion mechanism auto-sets its overall length; ensure both ends engage evenly.
  4. Fix the strip
Use the factory holes to secure the espag to the sash (pilot first if needed). Fit enough screws to prevent bowing but avoid over-tightening.
  5. Fit the handle & test
Fit the espag handle and operate through full travel. Check that the rising cams pull the sash tight and that both shootbolts enter their keeps smoothly.
  6. Tweak keep positions (if required)
With the sash closed, adjust the keeps for even compression and smooth locking. Re-test several times.

Troubleshooting

Hard to lock? Check both shootbolts are aligned with keeps; slacken keeps slightly and re-set with sash closed. Ensure cams are not over-compressed.

One end won’t engage? Re-seat the clip-in strip so it is fully home in the Eurogroove; re-check telescopic length and re-fix.

Handle returns slowly? Confirm the handle is compatible and that the cams aren’t set too tight; a dab of appropriate lubricant on moving parts can help.
