How to Measure a Cockspur Window Handle
Handles & Hinges UPVC Maintenance Ltd is a UK specialist in replacement parts for UPVC windows and doors. This guide shows you how to identify your cockspur handle so you can order the right replacement first time.
Tip: Support the sash if you remove the handle to
measure. Keep fingers clear of pinch points.
Step-by-step
-
Remove the handle (optional but easiest)
Close the window, pop off any small screw caps, remove the visible screws, then open the handle and remove the remaining screws. Now the handle is in your hand and simple to measure. -
Measure the stack height (the “A” dimension)
Place the handle base on a flat surface and measure from the surface to the underside of the spur. This is the size that must match your existing handle/wedge. (Common stacks are often around 9 mm, 13 mm or 17 mm — always measure yours.)
-
Check the handing (left or right)
Compare your handle to the diagram below. The spur points the way: left-hand vs right-hand. Order the same handing as your original.
-
Note fixings and finish
Check screw positions on the backplate (2 or 3 screws depending on model) and choose your finish (white, chrome/silver, gold, black, etc.).
